Inspiring Art Classes

01.

Fantasy Lands – Fine Art 7 sessions

Children will be engaging their imagination to create their own fantasy land and creatures. Creating a selection of artwork studies which will be made into their own exploration journal and a map of their land.

Children will learn basic/core art skills in a range of mediums and materials, such as:
Basic colour theory and water colour blending.
Tonal ink pen blending.
Pencil shading.
Oil pastel.

Children will also be introduced to different types of ‘Visionary fine art’, known as the ‘le fantastique’ fantasy and illustration.

They will be using artists such as Bryon Froud and Fian Arroyo for inspiration, and look at mystical creatures, goblins, fairies and wizards.

02.

Felt Birds – Art and Textiles
3 sessions

Children will learn basic skills in collage, sewing and applique. Topics covered include:
• Paper collage and colour theory.
• Exploring basic stitches such as running stich, cross stitch and back stitch.
• Basic Pattern making.
• Pinning and cutting.
• Basic applique and adding buttons.

Children will be introduced to artist Ellen Giggenbach for inspiration in this project. They will look at:
• Birds, geometric shapes and different types of colours.
• Design and the importance of shape.

Children will be engaging their imagination to create their own 2D relief felt art work, through paper collage and textile application, that they can then take home.

03.

Space & Planets – Art & Science
5 Sessions

Children will be engaging their imagination to design galaxies, invent planets, and explore the beauty of outer space through creative art projects. They will create a series of artwork studies inspired by our solar system and the wider universe, developing their own original planet and space-themed designs.

Children will learn basic/core art skills in a range of mediums and materials, such as:
• Oil pastel colour blending.
• Watercolour washes and tonal work.
• Soft pastel layering and texture.
• Collage and mixed media techniques.

Children will also be introduced to a space-themed artist for inspiration, as well as discovering fascinating science facts and key vocabulary about planets and the solar system.

They will be developing their artistic skills in:
• Colour and tonal blending.
• Composition and placement.
• Creative imagination and original design.

This project will be both educational and creative, combining art with science in a fun, hands-on way that allows children to experiment, learn, and let their imagination blast off into space.

04.

Seashells – Natural Forms
6 Sessions

Children will be exploring the fascinating shapes, textures, and patterns found in natural seashells. Through careful observation and creative experimentation, they will learn to capture the intricate details of shells—their curves, spirals, and ridges—while building confidence in proportion and form.

Children will learn core art skills in a range of mediums and materials, such as:
• Still life drawing and observation skills.
• Charcoal and tonal blending.
• Soft pastel mark-making.
• Pencil shading and detail.
• Watercolour washes and colour layering.

Children will also be introduced to Amiria Gale, using her approach to inspire their own art.

They will be engaging their imagination to create a series of drawings and paintings that highlight the beauty of seashells, developing both technical skills and creative expression. The project is designed to be both structured and playful, encouraging individuality, imagination, and a love of art.
